Can I apply if I have not been nominated by a teacher or community leader?
No. Only students who have been nominated by their teacher or community leader will be invited to apply to the Jumpstart Program.
Do I have to interview to be accepted into the program?
Yes. Students who submit strong applications will be asked to come for in-person interviews, to be conducted by a scientist from The Rockefeller University.
Is there a waitlist?
Yes, we will keep a short waitlist. Should a space open up, we will notify the waitlisted students as soon as possible. Waitlisted students will be notified of any openings by the last week of February, 2018.
Is there an application fee?
No, there are no costs to apply. However, students may not apply if they have not been nominated by a teacher or community leader.
When does the program begin/end?
The 2019 Jumpstart Program session begins on March 5, 2019, and will end on June 20, 2019 (excluding NYC DOE spring recess week, April 22 – 26, 2019).
How much lab time can I expect to put in per day/week?
Students are expected to attend all sessions from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, which take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting March 5, 2019 and ending June 20, 2019 (excluding NYC DOE spring recess week, April 22 – 26, 2019). This is a total of 5 hours per weeks for 14 weeks.
How much does the program cost?
There is no cost to participate in this program.
